Highs:

  • using the current to our advantage to consistently go 6 knots or more

  • getting to see a Christmas parade

  • having Hank's weather and ICW report to help us

  • Myrtle Beach Yacht Club - great marina!

  • seeing dolphins everyday

  • our overnight to Charleston (the first half)

Lows:

  • having to deal with current almost all the time

  • our overnight to Charleston (the second half)

  • having the weather change for the worse on our overnight sail

  • having opposing wind and current that caused the mooring ball to go under the boat

  • Tanya dropping her phone overboard

  • very cold weather

  • ripping part of our main sail

  • having a hard time taking the dog to shore (pluff mud everywhere)

  • getting caught at Elliot's Cut against a fast-flowing current

Firsts:

  • really dealing with current while anchoring

  • a real pod of dolphins

  • getting pumped out at our slip

  • motoring after dark

  • going over our mooring ball and having it stuck under the boat

  • cruise ship

  • Spanish moss

  • having to repair our sail

Lessons Learned:

  • Be very cautious about low tides and how much of a time difference there may be between low tide in various places

  • Expect the weather to turn, even if it isn't forecast

  • Zip all pockets at all times

  • Bring and wear lots of layers

  • Plan for strong currents

  • The ICW gets very shallow in southern South Carolina

  • Tie your mooring ball tight to the boat so it can't go under you
